Our Story
We’re Steve and Jen, the founders of 505 Photography.
For more than fifteen years, we’ve worked side by side serving families throughout Durham and the surrounding communities. Our partnership grew from years of learning how to blend technical skill with a genuine respect for the people we photograph. Over time, we discovered a rhythm that felt natural. Steve brings a thoughtful, artistic eye to every session, and Jen creates an experience that feels welcoming, guided, and personal, from the first conversation to the final delivery.
In 2024, we created 505 Photography as a way to offer something more intentional. We wanted a studio that honored the stories families carry with them, a place where the process feels just as meaningful as the final artwork. Every session begins with connection. We take time to understand the relationships, personalities, and small details that make each family unique. That foundation helps us create portraits that feel honest and deeply rooted in who our clients are.
Steve leads the creative work with a focus on light, composition, and the quiet moments that reveal genuine emotion. Jen shapes the experience with thoughtful design, clear communication, and a commitment to making every family feel seen and supported. Do you offer a la Carte pricing?
Yes we do! Just ask and we can supply you with a sample price list of our most popular items.
Can I customize our package?
Sure! As a matter of fact, that's how all our packages are done.
How much does a typical photo session cost?
Prices start around $400 and our average customer invests about $2,300 into their session including the session fee and products.
Can you come to our house?
Yes we can come to you, in fact we encourage it. We will work with you to decide on the best location for your session.
Do you have a studio?
Yes we have a studio space with a large selection of backdrops and professional lighting. It is attached to Steve's house so it has a very homey feel!
Do you take pictures outside or on location?
Yes, we have an outdoor studio here on our property that is set up for outdoor portraits. We can also meet you at a location of your choice or your home. Travel fees and permit fees may apply.
What are your qualifications?
Steve is a member of several local and national photography associations and is a Certified Professional Photography by the Professional Photographer's Association of America. He is currently working on his honorary Master of Photography degree. We are constantly learning and improving our skills and together have over 25 years of experience.
