telling your family's story through photography

More than just a picture

November 24, 20252 min read

Portraits are more than just pictures. They are anchors in our home, reminders of love, milestones, and the people who matter most. But every so often, I hear a story from a client that beautifully illustrates just how powerful a printed portrait can be.

Recently, one mom shared her reflections after displaying a portrait from her daughter’s session in our studio and her story captures something I see often: printed portraits don’t just decorate walls, they shape how we feel about the people in them.

“Our oldest daughter Danielle met someone last year, which has led relatively quickly to what we knew was a serious relationship. She’s now old enough and experienced with matters of the heart, so there is a good level of trust we have in her decisions, but we are still getting to know Dylan.

They recently had portraits made and we now have a beautiful canvas that we’ve displayed in our home. The photograph’s pose has Dylan facing the camera, with Danielle turned to focus on him. I see the love for him in her expression, and I can sense a spirit of peace and genuineness in his eyes. It’s a lovely image.

I have always enjoyed having family pictures around our home, but living with this portrait has truly had a surprising impact on my feelings toward Dylan. Not only is their love apparent, but it’s given me a feeling of familiarity for him that I did not expect. There is such comfort in this as we will soon be calling him ‘son’, as they have recently announced their engagement to be married!”

A photograph displayed in the heart of the home becomes part of daily life. It’s not tucked away on a phone or scrolled past on social media; it’s part of your everyday life.

For this mom, the portrait didn’t just show her daughter’s love; it helped her feel closer to the man who will soon be her son-in-law. That’s the kind of emotional impact only a printed portrait can bring.

Parents know how quickly life changes. Children grow, relationships deepen, families expand. Portraits give us a way to hold onto those moments, to make them tangible, and to let them speak to us every day.

This is why I encourage families to invest in printed portraits. They are not just images. Portraits are bridges of connection, reminders of love, and heirlooms in the making.
